DownloadThe three fonts which may complete your sortiment of the DOS fonts or ease the conversion of the DOS-version to the Windows-version of a program. DOS Classic are raster fonts sized 10,11, and 13 points having the same shape (10, 11) or a similar shape (13) as the common DOS alphanumeric font 80 chars to 25 rows. The code table for all fonts is CP 852 - PC Latin 2, which is also suitable for English.
The 10-points font has 8×16 pixels; it represents the direct copy of DOS font, but this letter does not fill all of 640×480 pixels, as DOS inserts narrow lines inside letters (you can see these lines looking closely). This is why the DOS screen uses 480 pixels vertically, but the characters itself use only 400 pixels in Windows screen. This font is mentioned for the 640×480 pixels resolution, and it leaves the space for the Windows taskbar above or below. You can also use it at higher resolutions (800×600 etc.) and it still remains distinctive.
The 11-points font has 8×18 pixels; it compensates the DOS behaviour by adding two pixels per character to make characters higher, this is not bare adding the space between rows. This font is mentioned for the 640×480 pixels resolution, if you plan to use (almost) all screen. You can add only the title bar and menu vertically. The font can be certainly used for higher resolutions, too.
The 13-points font has 10×22 pixels; it is "tuned" for the 800×600 pixels resolution. The linewidths remained at growing letters - thus the character shapes seem to be thinner. In despite of this, characters remain distinctive also at higher resolutions as e.g. 1024×768 or 1280×1024 pixels.
These fonts are not intended for MS Word; they are not TrueType fonts. They are the raster fonts of the oldest type.
You can add it to the operating system, as follows:
Control panel - Fonts - File menu - Install New Font... - enter the folder containing the downloaded font file -
select DOS Classic 10 - mark "Copy fonts to Fonts folder" - press OK.
When installed, you can select the 8×16 (10 pts), 8×18 (11 pts), or 10×22 (13 pts)
font for command line windows or Notepad accessory program.
